FLUCTUATIONS IN SHARES, A STEADY MARKET. GOVERNMENT BONDS FIRM. Business on the Auckland Stock Ex change maintains a firm tone, and at this morning's call there was steady bidding with little variation from Monday's rates Government 4 per cents were asked for a' £99, both for bonds and stocks, with £1 kss bid for the 3Vz per cent. Banks were steaery, and an inquirj came in for Bank of Australasia (eon.) ai £5 15/. Insurances continued firm, and then were buyers for South British at £3 3/6 with holders asking £3 5/. Buyers lor Union Steam preferenci shares advanced their offers to £1 1/3, anc for Woolworth preferences to £1 11/6. Australian general securities were firm with good offers for Colonial Sugar, Henrj Jones and Mount Lyells. Waihis were steady at Monday's lowei level, and after a sale at £12/ there wer< still buyers at £1 1/0. Northern Roller Mills shares wen wanted at £1 4/ for the ordinary and 19/( for the preference. ■ New Zealand Breweries Advance. At the noon call recent firmness in Nev Zealand Breweries shares was confirmee with a sale reported at £1 9/. Buyers foi 3'/2 per cent Inscribed stocks advaneec their offers 5/, to £98 5/. For 4 per cent; in the 1940 issue £99 10/ was offered, anc £99 5/ for the other dates. Sellers wen willing to take £99 15/ right through Christchurch Gas shares were asked for a' £1 5/6.
