CYCLING.
AUCKLAND CLUB. The Auckland Cycle Club opened its road racing season' on Saturday at Tamaki under showery weather conditions. The races decided were a SJ-mile handicap for juniors, and a 16-mile handicap for seniors. Mr. A. H. Hibburt, the president, declared the season opened amid cheers. The junior race resulted: —C. Sneller (1.45), time 17.17, 1; C. Rafferty (1.0), 2; C. Kyte (2.30), 3; P. Blcknell (scr), 4. Fastest time was clocked by Percy Bicknell (scr), in 16.14. The result of the senior race was :—R. Craig (3.0), 1; M. Hibtiurt (2.0), 2; H. Kopu (-5.0), 3; J. Sampson (4.30), 4. M. Hibburt also clocked fastest time in 47.33, and rode a splendid race.
AUCKLAND AMATEURS.
The club on Saturday opened its road season on the same course as used last year, that at Te Atatu. Although the roads were in flrst-class condition, there -was a strong wind that slowed down times considerably. A good field of 16 faced the starter. Results:—R. Taylor (1.13), riding time, 30.1-2, 1; Webster (2.0), 3.10, 2; C. Hogan (1.15), 30.10, 3; C. Melville (1.0), 30.21, 4. Fastest time, G. Patrick, 30.1 ; second fastest, R. MANUKAU AMATEURS.
The Manukaa Amateur Cycling Club commenced Its ninth annual road racing season on Saturday. A strong westerly wind prevented any fast timeg being produced. The placed juniors were: —G. W. Holland (3.0), riding time, 16.43, 1; L. C, Craddock (2.0), 15.44, 2; H. J. Ball (3.0), 16.45, 3; A. H. Dwlght (2.0), 4. Fastest time was registered by the scratch rider, G. H. Wheelhouse, who took 15.14 for the five miles, defeating E. R, Hansen by 9s. ... The senior event of six laps (10 miles) Was a hard race, J. H. P. English (on 7.0) was the limit rider, while Jack H. Wade and Lcs. HI Dwlght featured on scratch. The successful seniors were:—J. C. Dolores (4.30), time 48.28, 1; Jack R. Hall (2.15). 45.14, 2; C. Hansen (4.15), 47.20, 3; E. F. Raper (2.15), 45.21, 4; R. C. Chappell (3.15), 46.22, 5. * Jack Wade (scr) secured fastest time In 44.25, while Lea H. Dwlght (scr) finished In 45.47.
LYNNDALE CLUB,
A fine muster of keen cyclists faced the starter of the L.A.A. and C.C. first road race of the season on Saturday over a course of 12J miles. Detailed results are:—A. Gooder (6.45) 1, time 44.31 3-5; V. Scott (3.45) 2, 42.37: C. Johnson (1.15) 3, 41.24 3-5; H. O. Browne (scr) 4, 41.17; C. Gooder (1.15) 5, 42.32 1-5; C. E. McCurdy (12m) 6 50.7. Fastest time, H. O. Browne 1. 41.17; C. Johnson 2, 41.24 3-5; C. Gooder 3, 42.32 1-5. C. Johnson made the lap record of 19.26.
PAPATOETOE CLUB,
As an opening for the winter roaft Mason the Papatoetoe Amateur Cycle Club held a 12-mlle time trial with sealed handicaps on Saturday afternoon. A good field competed, but weather conditions were against fast times. The results were:— „ E. Moffitt (4.0), 1; h. Jones (3.30), 2; O. White (2.0), 3. I. Bellini with 15s secured fourth place with the fastest time of 34.4. The winner's time was 35.44.
TAKAPUNA CLUB.
The Takapuna Amateur Cycle Club on Saturday held an ISJ-mile race for seniors and an 111-mile race for juniors. The senior event was won by F. Roberts off (time 54.7). A Grant, off 2.30 (time 53.37), was second, and W. Pearce, off 3.30 (time 54.38) third. Fastest time was made by B. Sharp, off scratch, his time being 52.35. I Owing to heavy head winds the times were slowed up, but all starters hung on until the finish. Roberts, riding a strong race, drew away from his co-markers over the last inn to score a fairly comfortable victory. The remainder of the field was fairly closely bunched, Sharp picking the field up In the last lap. This was Roberts' first victory. The race for juniors resulted W. Johnson (2.0), 35.4, 1; R. .Tones (30s), 34.14, 2: O. McKee (scr), 34.4, 3 and fastest time.
