Hazlett,. has- completed arrangements for racing hie team in Australia. F. J. McKay will leave Bluff on May 8 for Melbourne, probably with about ten horses under his care. The three horses Mr. Hazlett raced at Riccarton this week, Ruling Light, Strong Light and Chief Light, will not .be in the party, which will include the steeplechasers Paris and Taramoe, also the two-year-olds Dazzling Raid, by Night Raid from Dazzling Light, Sir Simper, by Grand Knight from Simper, and Kindly Light, by Chief Ruler from Rafczle Dazzle, and several older horses, some of them maidens. It is intended to race the team in Melbourne during the winter. The two-year-olds are in the principal classic events in Australia in the spring, and if thfy go on all right the horses will remain in the Commonwealth for the big • spring meetings in Sydney and Melbourne.
WESTLAND RACING CLUB. MEETING POSTPONED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HOKITIKA, this day. Owing to heavy rain the Weetland races have been postponed till to-morrow. SYDNEY YEARLING SALES. BIDDING FAIRLY BRISK. SYDNEY, April 18. At the yearling sales of thoroughbreds to-day bidding was fairly brisk for the progeny of, Brazen, seven of which realised 2420 guineas, and averaged 345 guineas. A brown colt toy Pantheon brought 1100 guineas, as did a colt by Constant Sun. Several Magpie colts made 450 to 800 guineas. Percy Miller's draft from the Scone Stud, comprising mostly Pantheon's, excited keen competition, nine selling for a total of 2750 guineas. AN AVONDALE CANDIDATE. The-Day Comet gelding L'Allegro is still at Ellerslie and will remain at headquarters until after the Avondale meeting. His next appearance will be in the Foley Memorial Handicap, in which event he will be ridden bv H, Wiggins. Although most of L'Allegro s best performances have been recorded over eight furlongs, he should in his present condition be capable of running out the extra distance attached to the -big race at Avondale. Last season L'Allegro ran third to King's Knave and Grand Talk in the Champion Hack Cup at Te Aroha, run over one, mile and a ouarter, and is now undoubtedly an improved horse.
