CHURCHES OF CHRIST.
The annual conference of the Churches of Christ in New Zealand, which opened at the Ponsonby Road church on Thursday evening, was continued yesterday, when addresses were given on "The Challenge of Christ" by Messrs. A. L. Haddon (Dunedin), E. R. Vickery (Auckland), S. Stevens (Christchurch) and H. Cave (Greymouth). The report of the work of the Bible College in Dunedin was presented by Mr. W. D. More. The year had been a difficult one financially, but the -work had not been curtailed. It was recommended that the loan on the property should be converted by the issue of debentures at a lower interest. The committee appointed in charge was as follows:—Messrs. W. King, E. P. Aderman, J. W. Stokes, W. McKenzie, W. D. More, T. Todd, A. Roberts, H. Gill and A. L. Haddon, ex officio. It was decided that the next conference should be held in Christchurch. Pastor G. Fretwell, of Invercargill, was elected president for the year, and Pastor R. Gebbie was appointed the preacher of the conference sermon. Last evening a missionary demonstration was held, at which the presidentelect was inducted. Mr. R. Gebbie and Mr. H. A. G. Clark spoke, and special glees were sung by the girls' club. At the continuation of the conference this morning, Mr. E. P. Aderman delivered an address emphasising the importance of prayer in the work of the churches and in all practical planning. | The social problems report stated that ■ continued support had been given to the Bible-in-schools movement; chaplaincy work had been carried out in military camps, and efforts had been made in the direction of reducing gambling and drinking.
