BULB STOCK INSPECTION.

The Ministry of _ Agriculture and Fisheries is undertaking the inspection during the coming season of growing stocks of narcissi in England, with a view to the issue of official certificates, if found true to a type and reasonably healthy. The foliage and flower Will be examined in order 'to ascertain that the stocks are reasonably free from rogues and are growing vigorously. Any certicates that may be issued will refer solely to the purity of the stocks, but no certificates will be issued in respect of any. stocks obviously unhealthy or lacking in vigour at the time of inspection. A register of growers whose stocks have been certified will be published by the Ministry at the end of the inspection season. There will be a small charge for expenses incidental to inspection. This should prove a good thing foV the British growers of bulbs, for it will be an official recognition of clean and true stocks, both of which it is somewhat difficult to obtain at the present time, 'especially with Continental bulbs.. Some such" scheme would be of great advantage to this country, for, although it will not make clean stock dirty, or dirty stock clean, it would moan that certified stocks are the best buying for the purchaser, and would give the grower of clean stock due credit.
