"MY SCREEN HERD."
ONE FOR THE MILLIONS
Sly hero of tlie screen is a funny little man, always "down-an<l-out." said that lie vould never make a %alkio and lie lias kept his word. He is still on the top rung of tlie ladder. He has the world at his feet as the funniest film actor to date. He has done much more: he has weathered every possible temptation and disappointment that is the lot of the great. Really he is a sad little man, and oft times portrays his sadness in his acting. One gets a glimpse of his real self when h© smiles so wistfully. He has, it would seem, fame and money, but not the big things that would make everything worth while. He wants happy homo comforts and his two laughing children instead of his present disordered married life. Periodically he secretes himself in the wilds somewhoie to get away from tlie world. How tired he get®. Hifriends do not understand that he longs to be his real self eometimes. For hours he will play his beloved violin, revealing every little heartache and wish. He is a soulful musician who gets much, comfort from those loving strings. Off the screen he is always carefully groomed, most retiring and modest —the opposite of his screen personality. That alone is a great art. Such a man is ... . Charlie Chaplin. J.S.
