NORTHERN ROADS.

IMPROVED CONDITIONS.

The gradual improvement of the highways of North Auckland is frequently the subject of comment from visitors from southern districts, who from time to time tour North Auckland. There are still many stretches on which the old pot-holed conditions are encountered, but on none of these is it a frequent sight to see graders or roadmen. I>r In the best roaded districts of the North Inland, mechanical graders and modern methods of maintenance share a big part in the upkeep of the roads, and the tendency In' North Auckland to follow the engineeriiig practice of the better roaded districts is without doubt transforming many of the old-time "cart" tracks into up-to-date roads. Those districts which are paying attention to their roading requirements will no doubt reap tlie benefit, for it has been conclusively proved that the value of land in any district is considerably enhanced by the provision of good roads. Easter Patrols. —The Automobile Association's road patrols will commence their Easter itinerary at the end of the week. As is usual during a holiday period an extra patrol will be stationed at Rotorua. * Watch Headlights.—Headlight testing was carried out in the city •by A.A. patrols during last week. Although the number of headlights adjusted was over double the number done last year, the A.A. still considers that the majority of motorists do not pay enough attention to their lights. Touring North. —Many motorists are again choosing North Auckland for their Easter liolidav, according to inquiries made at the A.A. Although rather late in the season, the camping holiday will, if the weather is- fine,' still attract a large following. New Booklet.—Copies of the new regulations will shortly be available from the A.A. Some delay lias been experienced, but the booklet will now definitely go to print this week. Copies will be available, free of cost, on application to the Automobile Association.
