EDUCATION CONTROL.
ADMINISTRATIVE WORK.
"SPECIAL CONSIDERATION."
The administrative side of the Education Department is to receive special attention after the appointment has j been made of a successor to the retiring | Director of Education, Mr. T. B. Strong. I When the Hon. R. Masters, Minister of Education, was asked by a "Star" representative. whether a change was contemplated in the system of control of the Department consequent upon the retirement of the present director, he said that so far as the position of director was concerned, it was not intended that the. new appointee should be other than the professional head of the Department: • "It has to be remembered, however," the Minister added, "that the administrative side of the work is a very important question indeed, as.it embraces the whole of the financial or business activities of the.Department. Matters such, as accountancy, business relations with boards, grants for buildings, expenditure on the conveyance of school children and the like" are involved, and' I am convinced that this phase of the work of tlie Department calls' for special consideration from the administrative and financial points of view." Mr. Masters said it was his intention to pay special attention to that phase in the organisation of the head office, following the appointment of the new Director of Education. ■
