LENT TO DOMINIONS.
British Private Collectors' Works of Art. FOR AUCKLAND PUBLIC. (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, April 7. The New Zealand High Commissioner, Sir Thomas Wilford, and the Australian Agents-General have appealed to the British Government to promote legislation to enable works of art in British galleries to be loaned to public galleries in the Dominions for the benefit of those unable to visit Britain. Meanwhile, arrangements .are being made for a public exhibition in New Zealand and Australia of British works owned by private collectors. It appears that such works will be lent for exhibition in. Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Auckland, Wanganui and Dunedin, through the Empire Art Loan Collection Society. The pictures concerned will exceed 200. , BIGGER GOLD YIELD. INCREASE IN VICTORIA. MELBOURNE, April 7. Victoria's gold yield increased from 24,119 ounces fine- in 1930 to 43,038 ounces fine in 1932. The Mines Department provided equipment for 7240 prospectors last year. It is expected that the yield will show a great increase in the current year.
