THE ANNUAL MEETING.

Pegaway Wins Chief Handicap— Pukemiro the Manawaru,

The annual meeting of the Te Aroha Trotting Club is being held on the Te Aroha racecourse to-day in beautiful weather. There is a large attendance and the'course is in excellent order. The Opening Event. Te Mahanga and Our Summer commanded most support in the Waitoa Handicap, with which the programme opened. Red Hope and Our Summer broke up very badly at .the start and lost several lengths, while Aircraft also tangled. Home Brew, Maud Chenault and Worthy Chief were the first to show out, but going along the back Jester was in charge froni Worthy Chief, Lislea, Home Brew, Te Mahanga and Maud Chenault. Te Mahanga had run to the front before the top was reached from Lislea, Jester, Worthy Chief and Home Erew. There was no alteration as they turned for home and Te Mahanga-went on to win by three lengths and a half from Jester, who beat Lislea by two lengths. Then came Worthy Chief, Free Gift and Shining Metal. ••; • Third Placings Reversed.

Worthy Kate was the only withdrawal from the Elstow. Handicap. Peter Abdullah stood on the mark and lost about a hundred yards. Indolent led past the stands from Golden Huia, Stardown and Golden Eagle. Along the back Indolent was about six lengths ahead of Golden Eaglp, with Golden Huia about twelve lengths away, the others being well back. The same order was maintained into the straight, where Golden Eagle broke when about a hundred yards ahead of Kuini. Indolent went on to win easily by three lengths from Kuini, who beat Golden Huia by a similar distance, with Golden Eagle fourth and Wiriwhata and Autumn Lu next. After the race the judicial committee decided to reverse the placings of Golden Huia and Golden Eagle, owing to Golden Huia galloping. Golden Eagle was therefore placed third. ~> , • Free Logan Fails to Go Away. All the acceptors went to. the post for the ManawaiTi Handicap, Poi, Free Logan and Realty having most friends. Free Logan tangled at the start, losing all his handicap and being last when he did leave. Willie Derby piloted the field past the stands from Silver Bingen, Rangihau, Pukemiro and Lady Coronado. Along the back Rangihau had run np second to Willie Derby with Silver Bingen, Pukemiro and Poi all handy. Rangihau was first to straighten up for the jud<re from Our Peter (who had put in a fast run), Willie Derby, Realty, Pukemiro and Poi. Pukemiro did best over the concluding stage to win by a neck from Realty, with Rangihau two lengths and a half away third. Silver Bingen, Willie Derby, Our Peter and Free Logan were next. The Big Handicap. Kewpie's Guy and Brentlight were the only scratchings for the Te Aroha Trotting Handicap. The hracket, Pegaway and Pageant, was best supported, while Prince Pedro and First Flight also carried good Amounts. Great Delight broke up at the start and lost a good deal of ground. When the field settled down Brent Zolock was in charge, and entering the last round he was leading Pegaway, Prince Pedro and Kewpie's Triumph. First Flight then moved up fast, and was second going out of the straight. Brent Zolock was still the pilot along the back from First Flight, Pegaway and Prince Pedro, who were all in close company, with Kewpie's Triumph and Pageant next. Crossing the top Brent Zolock began to tire and First Flight was the leader into the from Brent Zolock, Prince Pedro, Pegaway and Kewpie's Triumph. Pegaway then put in his claim, and went on tO'Win»easily by a length and a half from First Flight, who beat Prince Pedro by a similar distance. Then came Pageant, Kewpie's Triumph, Auto Machine and Brent Zolock, with Great Delight easing up. ■ •■■••
