OBITUARY.

MR. S. V. COULTHARD. An arrival by the ship Joseph Fletcher 75 years ago, Mr. Septimus Vickers Coulthard died at Avondale in his 77th year. The family lived a short while at Epsom, and then moved to Awhitu. Later Mr. Coulthard, with his brothers, started a sawmill at Orua Bay, neat the South Head, on the Manukau Harbour.' Afterwards Ije kept a store at the bay for about 30 years, and also carried on the buying of kauri gum. Mr. Coulthard was. a fluent Maori linguist. In 1885 he married the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Millett. Deceased is survived by his wife and the following children: Mr. Leslie Couthard, of Onehunga; Mr. N. Coulthard, of Paerata; Mr. J. E. Coulthard, of Awhitu; and Miss Dulcie Coulthard, of Avondale.

MRS. AMY DAWSON. One of the oldest residents of the Ngaruawahia district, Mrs. Amy Dawson has died at the age of 84, years. She was born in Berkshire, England, and arrived at Ngaruawahia in 1860. Her husband, the late Mr. Arthur Dawson, managed the first brewery established' at Ngaruawahia. Afterwards they went farming at Whatawhata, but subsequently had charge of the hotel at that place. About 30 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Dawson returned to Ngaruawahia. Mr. Dawson's death took place 17 years ago. There is one son, Mr. A. B. Dawson, and one daughter, Mrs. G. Graves, and also thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

JMISS JANET WHITE. Born at West Tamaki 88 years ago, Miss Janet White died at her home in Wynyard Street this week. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David White, who were early settlers at West Tamaki. The whole of Miss White's long life was spent in a;nd around Auckland. Her father later built the house in Wynyard Street, which was occupied by his daughter, who enjoyed good health until within a week of her death. Miss White was a very old member of the congregation attending St: Andrew's Presbyterian Church. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Jane Dain, of Victoria Road, Devonport.
