NEW TAKAPUNA RACES.
TWO ADDITIONAL PLATES.
SPRING AND SUMMER EVENTS
INCREASE IN STAKES LIKELY,
The success that has attended the Takapuna Jockey Club in connection with the Takapuna Plate, and later the Wynyard Plate, has induced the committee to go a step further, and on Thursday they decided to put two additional Plates on their programme for next season. The Takapuna Plate and the Wynyard Plate are decided at. the spring and summer meetings respectively. They are for hacks and are run at special weights over seven furlongs. Now it is proposed to substitute the Pupuke Plate, of 300sovs, nine furlongs, at the spring meeting, for the Pupuke Hack Handicap, and the Devonport Plate of 300sovs, nine furlongs, at the summer-meeting, for the Hauraki Hack Handicap. The conditions will be the same as for the Takapuna and Wynyard Plates, and these events will be run on the second day of the meetings mentioned. The winner of the Takapuna Plate, which is run on the first day of the spring meeting, will have to carry a penalty, to be decided later, if started in the Pupuke Plate, and the winner of the Wynyard Plate will also have to carry a penalty for the Devonport Plate if started. The club has also decided to increase stakes in the Takapuna Plate and the Wynyard Plate from 275sovs to 300sovs. The club has also in view the question of increasing the stakes generally for next season, and it would not be surprising if this becomes an accomplished fact. They are to be congratulated 011 the step they have taken in embodying the new races in their programmes, and, judged by the manner in which owners have supported the Takapuna and Wynyard Plates in the past, the club should have no regrets iu making this further experiment.
