LEYS INSTITUTE UNION.
KEEN DEBATING CLUB. The annual meeting of the Leys Institute Literary and Debating Union was held last night ,at the institute. Mr. J. C. Black presided. The annual report and ■ balance-sheet showed the organisation to be in a particularly thriving condition, and the union had been the means of reviving interest in debating in Auckland. A resolution of condolence in connection with, the death, of Mr. Jack Alluin, the first secretary of the union, was carried. The election of officers... resulted as follows: —Patron, Sir Cecil Leys; president, Mr. Geo. Bullen; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. C. Black and A. Clarke;, secretary, Mr. F. W. Castle; committee, Messrs. P. J. Luxford and G. G. Grant, and Miss A. King.
