TE RAPA GOSSIP.

HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR SOUTH. TO RACE AT STRATFORD. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") HAMILTON, this day. With no further meetings close at hand to engage the attention of local horses until Easter little serious work will be, attempted on the Te Rapa tracks until the approach of the Ellcrslie gathering, at which it is anticipated a strong local contingent will be present. ■ Horses who have participated in the recent intensive country programme .'should benefit considerably by the present, let-up. The hurdling contingent for Ellerslie have entered on a steady programme, and indications are that Te. Rapa horses will claim their full share of stake money at Auckland. ' '.. ; k . •-.:. ; High Commissioner is building up well, and the schooling tasks allotted him over the past several weeks should assure him being in great heart for Stratford, at which meeting he will be having his first start for some time. He has been handling his fences in improveel style and hitting out well on the flat. It will not be lor lack of condition if he fails to pick up a stake in the South. Twenty-four Carat was receirtly tried over hurdles, and the early promise he gave has made J. F. Tutchen optimistic of the prospects of his charge in this direction. The careful schooling education he is. receiving at present should make him an acquisition to; the local jumping division. Ruby Dawn has been moving 1 along freely in her work of late and may make amends at Whangarei 'for her failure at Paeroa. Tutchen's charge is a good track worker," and her comparatively poor display at the Ohinemuri gathering came as a foig surprise to the stable. The turning course at Paeroa was not to the liking of the Day Coiret mare. Ruby Dawn's full sister, Rxiby Meteor, is in forward condition now and showing no ill effects from her recent racing. She, like Ruby Dawn, did not fulfil expectations at Paeroa. This member of Tutchen's string has a nice turn of speed, as she showed at the recent Te Rapa meeting, and, pr.ovided the company is not above the . average; , should ma,ke amends, for Paeroa when produced again. Limex is entered for ; two events at Whangarei, tout it has- not yet. been decided whether. the trip will be undertaken. Limex is another Te Hapa horse that did not run up to expectations at Paeroa. Her previous consistency—two wins and a second in five starts —should ensure her support if she is started.

WHENUANUI'S REAPPEARANCE. Whenuanui's reappearance as a hurdler ■was distinctly promising when he ran second in the Karere Hurdles at Awapuni, after having set the pace for practically the whole "way (says a southern writer). His rider did not try similar tactics on the second day and: the Acre gelding did not display the imptovement expected.
