SWORDFISH SCHOOL.

EXTRAORDINARY SIGHT.

VISITING ANGLER'S THRILL,

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

TAURANGA, this day.

Mr. E. A. Temple Perkins, a district commissioner of the Uganda protectorate, Central Africa, who is on furlough in New Zealand, took the opportunity of visiting Mayor Island in the launch Naomi. He stayed three days at the island and is highly delighted with the sport. He secured four swordfish. Fishing on Tuesday, afternoon, Mr. Perkins captured three swordfish in tvvo hours, and then something extraordinary occurred. For a distance of from 200 to 300 yards between the launch and the island the sea was literally alive with swordfish. In the opinion of Mr. Perkins the big fish were probably schooling in preparation for migration to warmer waters. , Mr. Perkins, who has had 14 years experience of big-game hunting in Africa,' said that for actual momentary thrills swordfishing compares well with hunting on land, but there was in fishing the absence of personal danger to the hunter. He said he hoped to return to Tauranga on his next furlough in three vears and to induce other African sportsmen to come and share the thrills which the waters round Mayor Island offer.
