WORD CONSTRUCTION.
NOVEL COMPETITION.
Starting with a single letter, it is possible to build up, in stages, quite a large word by adding only one letter at a time. As an example, we will lake the article "a," add one letter "t," and- make "at." To this add yet another letter "s" and we have "sat." Another letter "e" and we have "sate." Add another "t" and we can make ''taste." Letter after letter can be added and new words built up in a truly astonishing manner. It will be noted that the words may be increased by one letter only, but that the lelters of a previous word may be rearranged in any manner to make a new word. The. competition entry should be written out in the following style, which lessens the, work of the competitor and simplifies the task of the judge:— A : -f: AT. SAT SATE TASTE Prizes of 7/6, 5/, 3/, 2/6 will this week be awarded for the longest words built up in stages along the lines of the example shown. Where ties are inevitable age and neatness, will be taken into consideration.
