EGG MARKET FIRMER. HUTT TOMATOES BY STEAMER. VEGETABLES VERY CHEAP. Most lines of fruit remain about the rates ruling at the end of last week. American oranges arrived yesterday and sold at from 38/ to 40/ per case. Huttgrown tomatoes that could not be sent by train arrived by steamer from Wellington, and sold at from 1/6 to 3/ per box. Apples are in heavy supply, and low in price. Peaches, nectarines and plums are lio.v about over for this season, only a Lew odd lines being sent in. Passion fruit, which under ordinary conditions would have been sent by rail to "Wellington, had to be sold on the Auckland market, which was, in consequence, over-stocked w.tn that fruit. Quotations are:— Fruit. Apples: Dessert, Cox's Orange Pippiu, 6/ to 9/ per case; Spys, 2/6 to 5/; Jonathan 3/ to 6/; Munro, 2/6 to 4/; Bdllarat, 3/6 to 5/; Delicious, 2/ to 5/. Pears: Dessert, Louis Bon Jersey, 8/0 to 10/0 B Bosc, 4/ to 6/; cookers, 3/ to .4/. Passions: 2/ to 3/. Oranges: Californian, 38/ to 40/; Jaffa, 35/ to 38/. Urapei-int: Californian, 40/. Tomatoes: Choice smooth', 3/ to 4/; others 1/ to 2/0; Hutt, 1/6 to 3/. Bananas: No. 1, 19', No. I and medium, 10/ to XII. Caps Kooseberries: 2d to 2%d per Ib. Quinces: ol to 7/ Lemons: 6/ to 12/. Grapes: ie Kauwhata 5/ to 6/6; hothouse, Coltnan, extra choice, 1/3 to 1/6; Queen, 6d to 9d; others, 8d to 1/; Hamburgh, 6d to 10d. Vegetables. Supplies of kumaras, potatoes, beans and pumpkins continue very heavy. Cabbage and cauliflower are now onco more getting through from Ohakune. Largo quantities of onions are being ottered on this market. Peas continue m tansupply, and sell at fairly satisfactory prices. Heavy supplies of lettuce sent in caused a drop in prices. Quotations are:-— Potatoes, 1/ to 2/3 per bag; swedes, 1/ to 2/6 per bag; onions, 2/ to 2/6 per bag: kumaras, 1/6 to 3/ per bag; cabbages, 3/6 to 6/6 per sack; on benches, 2/ to J/o per dozen; cauliflowers, heavy supplies, 3/ to 4/9 per sack; on benches, 2/ to 3/6 per dozen; pumpkins, best Crown 5/ to 7/ per cwt; Triumph, 4/ to 5/6 per cwt; cucumbers, 1/ to 3/ per dozen; carrots, 6d to Ud per dozen; parsnips, 6d to 9d per dozen; beet, 4d to 6d per dozen; turnips, 3d to M per dozen; radish, 3d to 6d per dozen; spring onions, 4d to 8d per bundle; spinach, 6d to 9d per dozen; leeks. to 3d per bundle; green peas, 4/ to t>/9 per bag; French beans. 6d to 1/3 per bag; marrows. 1/ to 1/6 per dozen; melons, citrons, 2d to 6d; water, 2d to 1/ each: lettuce, 1/ to 3/ per case; celery, cooking, 4d to 8d per bundle; dessert, 1/ to l/'J per bundle; rhubarb, 6d to 2/ per dozen. Eggs and Butter. First grade hen and duck eggs remain steady at last Friday's advance in prue. B grade prices are unchanged, but a rise took place in C grade, both hen and duck. Quotations arc:—First grade hen eggs arc now 1/8% per dozen; B, 1/5%; G, 1/2/3. Duck egg prices arc: First grade, i/l'/z; B, 1/5%; C, 1/2%. , , Fanners' butter is meeting with good sale at 6d to 8d per lb. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was medium, and the demand was fair. The prices paid remained about lavel. Selling rates were as follow: — Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime 2/6 to 4/ each, not prime 1/ up; light breed.?, prime 1/6 to 2/6, not prime 6d up. l'.it roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 1/3 to 2/ J light- breeds, 9d to 1/3. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 1/6 to 2/; light breeds, 9d to 1/3. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best 3/ to of, smaller 1/3 up; light breeds, best 3/ to »/, smaller 1/3 to 1/9. Drakes: Young, prime 9d up, smaller 1/3 to 2/. Ducks: Young, 9d to 1/3; old, 9d to 1/3. .
