LOCAL BODIES.
NEW LYNN BOROUGH COUNCIL. ! A meeting of the New Lynn Borough . Council was held last evening. The Mayor, Mr. Geo. Laweon, presided, other members present being Messrs. W. Platt, Geo. Severne, S. James, M. Laing, A. Woolley, and A. Jeffrey. Rewarewa Culvert.—The works foreman reported that the condition and width of this culvert had been referred to the Main Highways Board- engineers. An appointment had been made tor a further inspection. . Street Collections. — ; Permission was granted the Western- Suburbs Returned Soldiers' Association to hold a street collection on April 21, and the Community Sunshine Association to take up a street collection on May 25. Heavy Traffic—A cheque for £56 1/8 was received from the Auckland City Council, being the borough's proportion of heavy traffic license fees collected from December 1 to February 28, 1933. Improved Lighting.—The Waitemata Power. Board replied "to the councils leanest for the installation of a new long type bulb in the street lamps of the borough. The board was not purchasing any more of these special lamps, but instructions had been given for all street lamps in New Lynn to be fitted with a new extension that will give a much better reflection.. Proposed Waterfront Road—A letter was received from the Auckland City Council relative to a suggestion from the borough that the construction of a_ waterfront road should be considered by the city as a means of providing reproductive relief work. A copy of Mr. Tyler's report was enclosed, and this doubted the wisdom and practicability of such an undertaking being attempted during the present decade. • Portage Road.—The council accepted an offer from Messrs. Cruin Bros, conveying free to the borough 10 feet of land at the corner of Portage and Great North Roads. This will enable the council to round off both corners at the intersection, providing better and safer traffic facilities. It was resolved to thank Messrs. Crum Bros, for their offer. Borough Works.—The foreman reported that the sealing of the contraction joints on Titirangi Road had been completed, and passed by the Main Highways Board. At Lawson Park a start had been made on the cutting and filling work, and progress would now be more ap'parent. The water meter reading for the SeptemberMarch period had been completed. The regrading of the lower portion of Veronica Street was in hand, in preparation for the lowering of the western end of Bollard Avenue. Auckland Museum. —The Auckland Institute and Museum director advised the council that its contribution towards the maintenance of the above for the year ending March 31, 1934, would be £77 15/9.
