THROUGH WINDOW.
ASSAULT CHARGE. MISCHIEF ALSO ALLEGED. SUSPECT BEFORE COURT. Arrested last evening by Constable Johnston, Edward Clarence BrimfieM, aged 42, labourer and butcher, appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the ]>olice Court to-day on charges of mischief and assault. Brim field was charged with mischief by wilfully damaging a suit length valued at £2 .9/ and a plate-glas-s window valued ,8.1 £3(5,' the ., property of Hallensteiu Bros., and, further, with assaulting Edwin M. Lewie. Mr. Aekins, who appeared for accused, asked that Briffifield be remanded until March 27. Counsel also asked that bail be allowed. The magistrate asked DetectiveSergeant Mcllugh what, the circumstances were. Detective-Sergeant McHugh: Last. evening Brimlield met Lewie, his son-in-law. There has been some difference between the two. Briinfield is alleged to have punched Lewis on the nose. Lewis went through the large window. Then Briinfield picked, him up and threw him through tho window again. Lewis was cut by the glass, and I would therefore ask that "bnjl jshould be substantial, if granted. The arresting constable has just informcid me that Bi-imliekl would kill Lewis wlicn he got out. ■ Couneel said his client would give an assurance that there would be no trouble. The remand was granted, bail in one surety of &">0 being allowed.
