CAREERS FOR BOYS.
Harrow has appointed a "careers master,', whose duty it will be to take charge of a special form of the elder boys and to study their characters and aptitudes with a view to the careers they will subsequently adopt (says the London correspondent—of the 'Melbourne "Age"). Times have changed when a public school with the standing of Harrow takes such a practical step; lone wonders what careers would have been j recommended to such past Harrow scholars as I Lord Byron and Sir Robert Peel. The first etep which the newly-appointed master is to adopt will be to subject every boy to a test by the National Institute of Industrial Psychology. He will keep the results a personal secret to guide him in hss recommendations. It will also be his duty to collect information regarding openings and prospects on the professions and in business houses. Possibly his most tricky task will be to persuade parents that their preconceived ideas about their son's future are not necessarily sound.
