ON 'CHANGE.

FLUCTUATIONS IN SHARES. FAIR BUSINESS PASSING. Though business is not so lively as it was earlier in the week, a fair number of sales are being recorded on the local Stock Exchange. Four and a halt's were steady, with buyers at £96 15/. In the banking section Australasias were in demand, and buyers raised their limits to £9 12/6, while £2 3/9 was offered for New Zealands. Insurances continue very firm. £3 2/6 was offered for South British and £2 7/6 for New Zealands, but holders of the latter had withdrawn in the meantime. Kaitangata Coal shares were asked for 17/, and Gear Meats had a buyer at £1 5/.' For Gisborne Sheepfarmers' debentures buyers advanced their, offers to £66 10/. The Noon Call. At the mid-day call New Zealand Insurances sold at their highest value for a very long period. This followed a rise which has been persistent over the past few weeks. After the sale there were still buyers at £2 8/. Colonial Sugars sold at a slight rise, and there was no change in the limits on either side of the market. Government bonds of the 1938 issue had a sale at recent values. SALES COMPLETED. Last Sale. AT THE 3.15 P.M. CALL YESTERDAY— Aust. P. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Stock Exchange Association, in order to clarify for investors the arrangements made for future quotations of Government loans, has made the following further statement: — It is hoped by the Treasury, on account of the organisation for allocating new dates as applications for conversion come in, that it will not be long after April 1 before holders of converted stocks begin to receive advice of their new maturity dates. As each holder receives his notice he will naturally quote the new rates of interest and the new maturity date in order to give complete information to the buyer. The use of the word "assented," following the old interest rates and maturity dates, will consequently soon be unnecessary. The term "cum conversion" will follow the old interest rates and maturity dates, and will be used from March 25 to 31 only, because sales up to and including March 31 carry any premium on account of adjusted interest, which is being calculated by the Treasury under the old 10 per cent tax up to that date, payable on or before May 15. On and after April 1 all c- r.verted holdings are ex premium and adjusted interest, and carry the new rates of interest which accrue from the beginning of next month. As the number of holdings not converted is up to the present small there is no necessity to use any expression to designate this class. Interest at the old rates, subject to 10 per cent tax up to and including March 31 anil to 33 1-3 per cent deduction from April 1 onward, will be paid on the usuui dates originally appointed under each loan, and there will be no special adjustment of interest for these unconverted holdings as there is witli converted ones.
