NORTH DEVONPORT.
RATEPAYERS' ASSOCIATION". The annual meeting of the North Devonport and Victoria Park Ratepayers' Association was held last evening, Mr. B. L. Smith presiding. It was decided to protest against the appointment of a drain layer being made from outside the borough. The meeting decided to support the candidature of Mr. C. Farquharson and Mr Mouat for seats on the council, and to ask Mr. H. F. W. Meikle to accept nomination for a seat on the Waitemata Power Board, and endorse the candidature of Messrs. Kennings and Trevithick, who are at present members of the board. The following office-bearers were elected: President, Mr. B. L. Smith; vice-president, Mr. Wilbert Marks; lion, secretary, Mr. G. Ewington: hon. treasurer, Mrs. Ewington; executive committee. Messrs. R. Harding, W. Prebble, H. R. Harper, F. C. Daviee and A. J. Bogue; social committee, Mrs. Parry, Messrs. H. Osmers, P. C. Davies, S. Christian and J. Hall. A vigorous protest was made by Mrs. A. J. ' Bogue against the proposal to take away from the Albert Street cemetery the headstones standing there and replace them, with a monument. Mrs. Bogue stated that besides the remains of at least one i Maori chief those of many of the founders of the borough lay in the plots, and the area had a great historical value. It was decided to write to the borough council and the Church of England authorities conveying the sentiments expressed.
