MAIL REACHES OHURA.

SWUNG ACROSS ON CABLE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) OHUEA, this day. The first mail since Tuesday reached Ohura last night by lorry. It was swung across the Otunui Stream on a cable, the bridge having been washed away and the road to Taumarunui being impassable. ' The bridge between Ohura ana Ongarue has also been destroyed, and will require a week to restore. To-day a train service was established between Ohura Valley towns and Tahora, where the train connects with one from the Stratford end. There will be no through trains on the Stratford Main Trunk to connect with the Main Trunk at Taumarunui for several weeks, as the landslide near the Okahukura tunnel deeply blocks the line with enormous trees and rocks for over half a mile. All available labour in the district is employed clearing the rails and retrieving sleepers swept away for long distances.
