TENSION IN VIENNA.
Troops Guarding Austrian Parliament. NAZI COUP FEARED. (Received 10.30 a:m.) VIENNA, March 15. The city is under- arms to-night. Police, wearing- steel helmets and armed with rifles, are dispersing Nazis, ■ Socialists and Communists alike, all of whom are demonstrating against Dr. Dollfuss' semi-dictatorial rule. The- police have mounted machineguns at strategic points and troops are ready, fearing a Nazi monarchist coup d'etat.. ' > The police entered Parliament to find the Socialists and Nazis already sitting. They held a two-minute session and prorogued Parliament indefinitely, cheering the Republic. The police immediately notified the deputy-President, Herr Straffner, that the session was illegal as the police were not notified.
Troops are guarding Parliament and all public buildings owing to the Opposition's summoning of the National Council. Extreme tension prevails in Vienna owing to the belief that the Government will use force to prevent the Deputies assembling.
