"CYNARA" FOR REGENT.
RONALD COLMAN'S LATEST TRIUMPH. Ronald Colman, star of a long line of screen successes, comes to the Regent tomorrow in "Cynara," the screen version of the distinguished London and NewYork legitimate stage success. Sir Gerald du Maurier and Gladys Cooper appeared in London in the roles now played by Ronald Colman and Kay Francis. "Cynara" is the narrative of a casual love affair between people with fine sensibilities who are not of a casual mind. Here the popular actor, whose long and brilliant career has been established through a line of dependable and consistently good films, has this time to solve the problem of the conflict between his infatuation with a girl of the people and his own love for his wife. The poignancy of the emotions involved is well reflected in the title, an allusion to the refrain in Ernest Dowson's famous poem: "I have been faithful to thee, Cynara, in my fashion," which Dowson wrote while trying to forget the one great romance of his life. Henry Stephenson, one of the bestknown players on the English stage, plays in the film the same role that he played on the stage. "Cynara" also brings to the screen Phyllis Barry, whom playgoers will remember having seen in musical comedy in New Zealand a few years ago. She has been given one of the most important roles, sharing honours equally with Kay Francis. The picture has been brilliantly directed by King Vidor, and the English settings are said to be exquisite. An event of considerable importance in the local film world takes place to-morrow at the Regent, in the introduction of Vvaic Disney's beautiful technicolour ammatea cartoons.
