PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD.
The Papatoetoe Town Board met last evening, the chairman, Mr. W. J. Nicholson, presiding.
Public Hall Alterations —It was decided to convert the front of the Papatoetoe Public Hall into offices for the Town Board's use. The cost wa6 estimated at £100, and at a meeting between the board and the Manukau County Council, the owners of the hall, the rental was fixed at 12/6 per week. Allocation of Playing Areas.—Several applications were received for the use of playing areas for winter sports. Mr. J. Franklin, chairman ot' the reserves committee, reported that 30 relief workers had been placed on the Great South Road recreation reserve, which was at present being levelled and drained, with a view to speeding up the work, and completing at least two grounds for the coming season. Floodlighting the Cycle Stadium.—ln replv to an inquiry as to the cost of lighting the stadium for night racing, the board received the following Blanket lighting (overhead lights), £850; or floodlighting (focussed lights), £300. On account of the excessive cost the board decided to defer the matter.
Visiting Engineer.—Mr. Franklin reported that Mr. Lewis Mitchell, water engineer, of Bradford, England, would be inspecting the district water system on March 29.
