AGAINST QUOTA.

MR. GROUNDS , VIEWS.

Going to Australia to Discnss Situation. CAUSE OF THE SLUMP. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent}' KOHUKOHU, this day. The announcement that Mr. Dynes Fulton, chairman of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., and himself have been deputed to go to Australia to discuss the proposed restriction of butter exports, "was made yesterday by Mr. W. Grounds, chairman of the Hokianga Dairy Co., and a member of the Dairy Produce Board! Mr. Grounds spoke for nearly an hour to a gathering of several hundred people. The occasion was the presentation to him by the directors of the company, of which heias been chairman for 21 years, of a large pedestal clock. After thanking tne donors, Mr. Grounds reviewed the position, and intimated that he was stoutly opposed to the proposed restriction. Dairying all the year round was not feasible, he said. It vras preferable that produce should be a few extra months in cold storage rather than that there should be the natural deterioration, caused by winter and summer production. The present slump was entirely due to the tremendous increase in production in Australia and to the dumping of produce on the English market at irregular periods. New Zealand recognised the need of spreading supplied throughout the year. Mr. Grounds was accorded a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence.
