N.S.W. V. AUCKLAND.
TO-MORROW NIGHT'S GREAT MATCH. The four New South "Wales swimmers, Victor Besomo, Owen Griffiths, Frank Griffiths, and Carl Phillips will make their first appearance in Auckland at a carnival in the Tepid Baths to-morrow evening. The Griffiths brothers and Besomo will be opposed by Bob Frankharu, holder of the New Zealand sprint titles, Reg. Thomas, 100 yds Auckland champion, and " Bill" Farrell over 50yds and 220 yds. Phillips, the junior champion of New South Wales last season, will meet Noel Crump, the New Zealand intermediate champion, and Walden Johnson, another leading intermediate, over 100 yds and 220 yds. A fine programme of supporting handicap and water polo events (in which the Australians will play) has also been arranged. Details of the records of the visitors are: V, Besomo, 100 yds backstroke champion or New South Wales and runner-up to Noel liyan in this season's 220 yds and 440 yds State free-style championships; Phillips, former 100 yds and 220 yds junior champion of New South Wales and 100 yds' national junior record-holder; O. Griffiths, former State 220 yds champion; P. Griffiths, one o£ Sydney's speediest sprinters. A review of both teams' performances for 100 yds shows that Thomas has slightly better times to his credit than any of tne others. The best times of the swimmers, are: Thomas, oo 4-ss; Frankham, 0. fcrufiths, F. Griffiths, 565; Besomo, 575. l<\>r 220 yards better performances tniiu those of the Australians have been done u> Frankham and Thomas, their times being. Frankham, 2.22 1-5; Thomas 2.23; Besomo, 2.23 3-5; O. Griffiths. 2.24 2-5. The times of all for 50yds are practically equal, eacn having done 26s or faster. , As far as the juniors are coneernea, Phillips recently in Sydney covered «wyui in 24 2-ss, equalling the New Zealand senior record, and 100 yds in 55 2-ss, which is better than the Dominion senior record.
