EDUCATION BOARD LEASES
QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day: The failure of the Auckland Education Board to give concessions to education endowment lessees and tenants was the subject of an urgent question to the Prime Minister in the House to-day. Mr. A. J. Stall worthy (Independent, Eden) asked that the question be looked into, as lessees complained that they had not received any reduction in rente prior to the passing of the National Expenditure Reduction Act, nor afterwards. They were still paying high rents. Mr. Forbes replied that he would he glad to look into the matter. He understood, so far as the National Expenditure Adjustment Act was concerned, the reductions were automatic, and that those entitled got the reduction. Mr. Stall worthy: Education reserves were specifically exempted, because the Prime Minister thought, and it was understood, it was for the purpose of giving a larger remission than 20 per cent, but the Education Board has refused to give anything.
