HARBOUR DISASTER.
NAPIER LAUNCH TRAGEDY. DECISION TO-MORROW. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIER, Monday. The hearing of evidence was concluded to-day at the marine inquiry into the launch tragedy on the night of December 28, when ten waterside workers were drowned. Evidence was given to the effect that E. Mentzer, the helmsman of the launch Doris, was not under the influence of liquor on the day or nig&t of the tragedy. Evidence of Montzer's sobriety was given by several witnesses, including Dr. W. D. Fitzgerald, who said lie saw Mentzer after he was brought ashore, when there was nothing in liis condition to attract attention. Witness considered that Mentzer was perfectly sober.
Mentzer was recalled, and further questioned, following which counsel representing various interests addressed the Court.
The magistrate intimated that the Court would be ready to give its decision on Wednesday morning.
