PARK HORRORS.
N.S.W. DEVELOPMENTS.
DOUBLE CHARGE OF MURDER.
YOUNG SALESMAN ACCUSED.
(Prom Our Own Correspondent.)
SYDNEY, January 27.
It would be premature to suggest that a solution of the horrible mysteries known here as the "Park" murders has yet' been reached, but within the past week certain highly sensational developments have taken place following the indefatigable efforts of police and detective.
The inquest on May Miller has concluded and the coroner's finding is that she was murdered by Eric Craig, the young salesman arrested a few days ago. Craig was then formally committed. for trial.
But while the inquest on May Miller was still in progress, the police decided that they had sufficient evidence available to justify a further step. After a "line up" at the Central Police Court, they charged Craig, further, with the murder of Bessie O'Connor, the girl who met a terrible fate at National Park over a' month ago. The Court had already adjourned, the lights were out, the magistrate had to be found in haete, and there were only a dozen people in the Court when, under such extraordinary conditions, the second charge was laid.
Craig seemed rather overwhelmed by this fresh attack, and when the coroner's verdict on the May Miller case was given, he broke down and wept.
The inquest on Bessie O'Connor is fixed for January 30, and public interest and curiosity are already worked up to a high pitch of intensity. It says something for the underlying kindliness of human nature that much sympathy has been extended to Craig's unfortunate wife, an attractive young girl who has been quite unable to conceal her amazement and horror at these astoiJnding disclosures. But, of course, the accused man has not yet been formally tried.
