RIFLE SHOOTING.

SIMMONDS IN FORM. SOME BRILLIANT SCORES. Brilliant shooting was witnessed at 200 and 300 yards at Penrose on Saturday. IT. Siminonds was first down on the middle target, both sighters were bull's eyes and Simmonds held the "Carton" for the remaining eight shots and scored the first possible at 200 yards this season. Siminonds scored 47 at 300 yards and won by three points from C. J. Robieson, who made 47 at each range. Great interest is centred upon the performances of Siminonds and Robieson, who are in the lead for championship honours. The former is a wonderful rifleman with 27 years of experience; the latter is just out of bis school days. Jimmy Walker made a great effort on Saturday and led many of the seniors homo. Walker lias indicated his shooting ability several times this season- and lias the riglit temperament for good shooting. Walker shot for 5, 5, 4, 5, 5. 5, 5, 5, 4, 5 —4S at the shorter range, and 5, 5, 5, 5, 3, 4, 5, 5, 4, 4,-45 at 300. C. J. M. Clark is shooting steadily this year and shows a marked improvement over his performances for 11)31-32 season. On Saturday he made only 44 at 200. but saved himself with a solid 47 at 300. With the Auckland provincial championships to be shot for at Penrose on January 30, there is much speculation as to the probable winner. Captain Siminonds should win easily as he is familiar with the range and is the outstanding performer this season. He is, however, unlucky in association shoots. C. J. Robieson, A. G. Robertson, A. G. Devore, W. Powell, F. Bowes, F. C. Hubbard, C. J. Kiddie, C. J. JI. Clark. S. Roebuck, are all likely to perform well. Entries of country clubs are expected to be heavy and the team shoot for the Wailii Roostor will prove an interesting competition.
