SALVATION ARMY.

JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS.

"SAVE THE CHILD" CAMPAIGN. Fifty years ago, on April 1, 1883, the Salvation Army commenced its work in New Zealand. The jubilee of the ai'my's association with the Dominion, therefore, falls this year and arrangements have been made to celebrate it in fitting fashion.

The Army commenced its work in Dunedin, and, despite adverse criticism and considerable opposition, the pioneer officers succeeded in establishing sixteen posts throughout the Dominion in the first year of its operations. The number of corps increased yearly, until now the Army is established in almost every centre of importance. At 109 corps and 2"4- outposts' the work of the Army is ■being carried-on. There has also been established a'net work of social institutions for men, women and children, at which beneficial work for young and old is being done. The Army believes that the best way in which its jubilee can be commemorated is to continue the work in which it is engaged, and it- has been decided that throughout the" year this will be carried on in a spirit of "jubilee intensity." The first effort which will engage the attention of members will be a "Save the Child" campaign during February. The object of the campaign will be strenuously to combat the forces which are at work to-undermine religion in the home and to lower the ideals of the young. It is hoped that many thousands of New Zealand's youth will be brought under influences which will help them to become worthy citizens and an asset to their country.

Following this campaign jubilee congresses will be conducted by Commissioner Cunningham, assisted by national headquarters' staff, as" follows: —Christchurch, Saturday, March 25, to Monday, March 27; Dunedin, Tuesday, March 28, to Sunday, April 2; Auckland, Thursday, April (3, to Tuesday, April 11; Wellington, Thursday, April 27, to Tuesday, May 2.
