AUCKLAND EAST CIRCUIT.
QUARTERLY MEETING HELD. The Rev. E. D. Patcliett presided over an attendance of 50 members at the quarterly meeting of officials of the Auckland East Methodist circuit, held at the Newmarket Church on Tuesday evening. Feeling reference was made by the chairman to the death since last meeting of several esteemed members, including the late Messrs. Arch. Peak, F. Souster, John Burton," Mesdames Bishop, Milburn and Wliiteman. A resolution was passed expressing sympathy with their relatives, and it was decided that suitable entry be made in the minutes in recognition of the work of the three first-named.
A membership report showed a slight increase on the quarter —a total of 844 seniors, 252 juniors and SI infant members.
The balance-sheet showed that the income for the past quarter had almost exactly balanced the expenditure —a fact that was considered very satisfactory. It was rc. :;lved to thank the various ladies' guilds for their efforts during the year. The arrangement whereby the Rev. A. Mitchell had been appointed to assist with the work at Newmarket and Parnell having proved satisfactory, he was reappointed under similar conditions and was cordially thanked for his good work. . It was reported that the friends in the vicinity of Three Kings were anxious for an assistant to be appointed with oversight in that locality. It was decided that the Rev. Mr. Olphert be asked to take the position for six months. The chairman reported that the sum of £500 0/0 had been raised in the circuit during the year for foreign missions.
Mr. A. G. Harris, who tendered hie resignation as mission secretary, was cordially thanked for liifi past nine years' work. Messrs. T. H. Martyn and E. R. Warburton were) reappointed circuit stewards, these being the only nominations. Messrs. E. R. Warburton, W. S. Maokay and W. Ambury were appointed to represent the -circuit at the forthr coming conference, with Messrs. T. L. Cajey, A. Williams and R. J. Adlington as substitutes. The meeting resolved to place on record its hearty appreciation of the splendid service rendered the circuit by the Rev. S. J. Werren, minister at Mount Eden, who woukl be leaving at the end of the connexional year. The next meeting was fixed for Mount Eden on April 10.
AVONDALE CIRCUIT. The Rev. A. Mcßean presided at the quarterly meeting of the Avondale Methodist Circuit held in the Henderson Church last evening. It was shown in the financial statement that the debit balance had been increased by £20. Special offerings for the liquidation of the debt arc to be asked for at the forthcoming harvest thanksgiving services. It was decided that a meeting of officers should be held in each church to formulate plans for definite efforts during the year.
Messrs. T. W. Hemer and W. Thorn were appointed representatives to the conference in Auckland next month, with Messrs. S. Elcoat and R. Thomas as substitutes.
