Preston asked I her to accompany him to a cafe, where he saifl he had some liquor stored. Miss f Conway refused, and when she objected i to another suggestion by Preston he i chased her along the street and threw | her into a passage-way. A constable saw ; what was happening, and headed Preston ' off and arrested him. Preston then made use of obscene and profane language. Mr. Kelly suggested that accused might be handed over to the naval authorities to be dealt with. "I'm on 14 days' leave now. sir," Preston told the magistrate. "I have nothing to say, except that I have no reeeollection of the matter. I had been drinking." "That's no excuse," said Mr. McKean. "You will now lose your leave and take a little punishment instead." Preston was convicted and ordered to be handed over to the Naval Base at Dcvonport.
