QUEENSLAND IN BAD WAY. STDNEY, January 2. In the Sheffield Shield cricket match New South Wales v. Queensland on Saturday, the visitors in their first innings made 100 runs (Leeston 52, Bensted 37). Hill took seven wicketa for 18. New South Wales, who had made 273 in their first innings, had scored 132 for seven wickets in their second when stumps were drawn (Love 51, Marks 26, Solomon 20, Hill not out 13). The innings closed to-day for 303, Hill raising his score to 91 and Howell making 20. Gamble took six wickets for 115 and Bensted two for 58. : Queensland, requiring 427 to win, made 170 for five wickets when stumps were drawn (Cook 49, Andrews 42, Bensted 25, Hansen hot out 35). In the grade cricket matches on Saturday centuries were scored by Bowden (109 for Western Suburbs against St. George), Scanes (101 for St. George), Ward (135 not out for Randwlck against Gordon), Trumper' (101 not out for Gordon).. The outstanding bowler of the day was Levy, who took six wickets for 24 runs for Waverley against University.
