COUNTRY WEEK ENDS.

RAIN STOPS PLAY. Rain stopped play irt the last series of matches in connection -with the Country Week tournament, which concluded at the Domain on Saturday. "Fortunately the Auckland Association and the Auckland Suburban Association have some real sporting friends in the cricket arena and these people in my opinion are public benefactors." declared Mr. Jacob Elliott, -when the Pratt Cup was presented to the winners, North Auckland. "I say this advisedly," continued Mr. Elliott, "because in times like this when depression has a discouraging world-wide grip it is the generosity of these people who donate trophies to promote sport—tending to turn the minds of the public from pessimism to merriment—that sportsmen can thoroughly appreciate." The speaker had referred to the generosity of Mr. W. S. Pratt, in giving the Pratt Cup for annual competition aetween the town and country associations. Mr. Elliott congratulated the losing teams on their performances and referred to the fine discipline maintained by the captains of the competing elevens.
