ROTORUA CARNIVAL
■ INTER-TRIBAL SPORTS. (By Telegraph. —Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, Tuesday. The Maori inter-trlbal regatta and carnival ,was held at Ohinemutu yesterday. Great'lnterest, was.centred in the canoe and horse-swimming, raceb. Another feature that .attracted much interest was a monster hangi, and a large number of pTople partook of the food cooked in the old native style. ' The Pois, hakas and war dances provided much amusement. Maori competitors from the Waikato. Bay of Plenty, Taupo, Rotoiti, Maurea and other places took part. The fixture was organised by members of the Ngati-whakaue tribe and the Kotorua Returned Soldiers' Association and was most successful. The proceeds will be devoted to local charitable objects. The results of the principal events were as follow: — Juvenile- Swimming Race (under 12). — Rogers 1, Loffley 2, Tal 3. Boys' 25 Yards Swim (under 16). — Rogers .1, Paul 2, Tago. 3. Girls' 25 Yards Swim (under 12). — Nana 1, Wehi 2, P. Mitchell 3. 100 Yards Men's Swim.—B. Mcßae 1, N. Mcßae 2, ManahT 3. 50' ' Yards ' Men's Race.—White 1, M. Mcßae 2. ' ' " 50 Yards Girls' Race.—Nana 1, N. Worrell 2. Barrel Race.—Matthews 1, Mcßae 2. R.S.A. Tug-u'-wur.—Ohinemutu 1. Thermal District 1. Canoe Race. —Mcßae, Phika, Timihou 1; Steele, S. M. Mitchell, Matthews 2. Canoe Hurdle Race.—Waikato X, Eotorua 2. Horse-swimming Race.—Pirlka 1, M. McRae 2, R. Pompey 3. Mystery Man . Competition.—Miss Jean Bremner.
