PRATT CUP CONTEST.

NORTH AUCKLAND'S SUCCESS,

Exciting cricket was seen at the Domain yesterday afternoon when the Country Week games were continued. By defeating South Auckland, North Auckland won the Pratt Cup, a trophy donated for competition among visiting country teams. Pukekohe made a great effort to lift the cup, but just failed. In their game against Otahuhu they needed 53 runs for a sixpoint win, but had only 18 minutes in which to cover the distance. Actually they got to within 12 runs of their objective before time was called. The final points for the cup were:—North Auckland 18, Pukekohe 17, South Auckland 10, Manukau 5, Otahuhu 4. Results: — Ovahuhu v. Pukekohe. —Otahuhu: First innings, 60. Bowling: Zinz.in five for_ 11, Kahu three for 15. Pukekohe: First innings, 168 for nine wickets declared (C. Cooper 54, Hickling 33). Bowling: Kerr three for 45, Gillies two for 27, Clayton two for 14, Dinneen two for 40. Otahuhu: Second innings, 160 (Kerr 80, Keesing 32). Bowling: Kahu four for 31, G. Laurie two for 14. Pukekohe: Second innings, 41 for two wickets. Pukekohe won by 108 runs on the first innings.

South Auckland v. North Auckland. — South Auckland : First innings, 117. Bowling: Vipond seven for 37. Second Innings, 68 (Liddell 21). Bowling: W. Dunning six for 18, Vipond three for 42, Wilson one for 8. North Auckland: First innings, 153 for two wickets declared (Vipond 68, B. Dunning 51, W. Dunning 27). Second innings, 35 for one wicket. North Auckland won by nine wickets.

Suburban Association v. South Auckland B.—Suburban Association : First innings, 318 (Watts 78, F. Yates 45, Guiniven 37, Master 32). Bowling: McPherson three for 74, Keat two for 05. South Auckland : First innings, 92 (Stuart 38). Bowling: Robertshaw six for 12. Suburban Association won by 226 runs.

Balmoral v. Roskill.—Balmoral: First innings, 253 (Stuart 57, Binmore 51, Pickmere 31, Hastings 23). Bowling: Hook four for 37, Whitcombe two for 7. Roskill: First innings, 79 (O. Cleal 29). Bowling: deal seven for 17, Hirst one for 3. Second innings, 169 for five wickets (Cleal 100, Hook 27 not out, Whitcombe 20). Bowling: Pickmere one for 4, Kelligher one for 6. Hirst one for 13. Balmoral won by 174 runs on the first innings.

Auckland Cricket Association v. Manu kau.—Auckland Cricket Association : First innings. 453 (Lewis 79, Edmunds 69 retired, Webb 62 retired, Scarborough 55. Shipherd 47 retired, Spence 42 retired, Ratcliffe 32, Rowntree 27 not out. Cooper 21). Bowling: Brooks five for 147. Manukau: First innings, 63 (Brookes 23). Bowling : Scarborough four for 8, Cooper two for 12, Stowell two for 5, Webb one for 8, Edmunds one for 8. Second Innings, 04 (Colhune 23, Aitchison 13). Bowling: Webb three for 7, Cooper three for l», Shipherd two for 14, Lewis one for 15. Auckland Cricket Association won by an innings and 326 runs.

MATCH AT THAMES.

The following Auckland City and Suburban representative team will meet Thames at Thames in a two-day match commencing on Monday: —E. Stallworthy (captain), S. Guiniven, W. Robertshaw, E. Masters, F. Cooper, H. Hunt, A. Dunning, J. Gillespie, F. Spence, F. Yates, W. Eastoe. The team will leave Auckland by bus early on Monday morning.

SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCH.

SYDNEY, December 30.

In the Sheffield Shield match, Queensland against New South Wales, the latter in the first innings made 273 (Nutt 58. Marks 45, Hird 38, Solomon 47). Bensted took three wickets for 53 and Brew three for 91. Rain -which caused short adjournments during the day, became heavier and prevented Queensland from opening its first innings.
