FATALLY CRUSHED.
CHILD INJURED IN SURF. STRUCK BY HEAVY LOG. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, tlii.3. day. A fatalitv occurred at Whangaruru vcsterday, when Mary McGec, the 13-year-old daughter of Mr, and Mrs. W. McGee, of Whangaruru, lost hor life "while plaving in the surf with some other children. The child was a haltcaste Maori. . Four children went for a swim. A strono- eaterly was blowing a very heavy sea running. The children did not venture out far, but contented themselves with playing on a large log close in' shore. ~ In the midst of their fun a big rollci came in and knocked Mary McGee off the log. As the log came inshore she did not have any chance of escaping it, as it was turned over by the waves, and it rolled on her. She was badly crushed and was taken from the water in an unconscious condition. A doctor was summoned from Hikurangi, about twenty miles away, but when he arrived the child was dead.
