RAINS TO NORTH.
HEAVY HOUDAY TRAFFIC. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. Exceptionally heavy passenger traffic by the Northern express from Auckland yesterday caused the train to be about three-quarters of an hour late arriving at Whangarei. The express was late in pulling out of Auckland yesterday, and the number of passengers to be picked up and disembarked on the journey caused a series of delays. In addition, the rain made the rails very greasy, and time was lost on the hills. Approximately 260 passengers entrained in Auckland, and of these about 100 came to Whangarei—a confirmation of the reports that Northland is going to see more tourists this year than ever before. Bookings for south of Whangarei are heavy and are on a par with last year. The mid-day express was full to-day, and to-morrow's train is very heavily booked up.
