Sehool fov G.^ Epsom, this year, owing to the tact that the custom of awarding form prizes lias been dropped, and also because the new headmistress, Miss E. R. Edwards, who is replacing Miss E- H. Sandford. now on her way to England, will not take up her duties until the first term of next. year. Miss Edwards is at present; headmistress at the Wailcato Diocesan High School. Instead of the prize-giving ceremony, a garden party, at which there were a eurhythmies display and "round and par.song singing, was lield in the school grounds yesterday. The acting headmistress, Miss M. M. Cattanach, said to-day that the singing in the school throughout the year had been of a particularly high standard, and in the competitions yesterday all songs given by the girls had been self-taught, and also seltchosen from a prescribed number. It was an innovation that they were attempting to develop in the school curriculum, and bade fair to bo successful. Miss Cattanach mentioned that the school said good-bye to Miss Jean Allen, who had taught music at the school for six years, and who intended going to England. She would be a loes both to the school and to Auckland musical circles. Ihe dux ot the school this year was Babette Medhurst, who was also head prefect and the best athlete. . , Several of the special certificates presented by Mr. C. <T. lunks. were. awarded to forms. Those awarded to individuals were:— I Gymnastics and deportment (highest honour ill school) : Glenise Adams, Barbara Kinder, Dorothy Robinson. Juno Beale. Cricket colours: D. Robinson. Life-savins badges : Gay Mcnteath, Enid Kclb.v, Connie Smallwood. Associates (gold liar). —Form VI Upper: Nancy Baniford, Babetto Buddie, .loan Edwards. Joan Gillillau. .Tocelyn Lusher. Babette Medhurst. Beth Upton. Form VI. Lower: Ilulcie Boucher, Colleen Mitchell, Patricia Stanton. At the Music Examinations held by the Royal Academy oC Music. London, the following girls were successful :• —Pass certificate for violin : Noelle Macdonald. Pass certificate. lower division, for piano : Patricia Fincli. Puss certificate, junior division, for piano: Eunice Shruhsa!l. Passed in rudiments of music: Joan Wisdom. Christine Farrer. Bessie Koherton. Intermediate: Christine Farrer. Advanced: Joan Wisdom. Final: Valerie Williams.
