PROSPECT OF LOWER KATES. A reduction of the vehicular ferry charges has been urged upon the Devonpwt Steam Ferry Company, Ltd., recently, and the company has been negotiating with the Harbour Board, whose *4 toll charge is included in the fare. At a meeting of the council of the •Auckland Automobile Association last evening the ferry company expressed the view that tin; Harbour Board should contribute to any reduction made. Even " the board declined to assist, the company would be able to make some reducbut, naturally, stated the company's letter, a smaller one than would e the case if the board co-operated. The matter will be the subject of a report to the boa:d next week.
