MOTUEKA BY-ELECTION.

As the Press Association did not give the details of the Motueka voting, I would like to point out that the result is by no means a defeat for Labour. In Reefton (and its environs) the figures were: Webb 713, Holvoake 296, McKenzie 70. (A mining centre and its environs .practically plumped for Labour.) The small farmers with their traditional bias against Labour and its concomitants recorded their verdict in the usual way. I happen to know the district very well. And all those acquainted with the electorate will agree_ that though the Coalitionist gained the majority of the votes, the more intelligent section of the people arc to be found in the mining centres.
