LEGAL INQUIRY COLUMN.

(By BARRISTER-AT-LAW.) [Letters of inquiry will be answered every week in this column. As far as possible they will be dealt with in the order in which they are received, and replies will be inserted, with the least possible delay.] ANXIOUS.—If the pension is a soldier's widow's pension, or a widow's pension, it'will cease on re-marriage. PUZZLED. —Interest should be reduced to 6J per cent as from April 1, 1932. If the bill of sale is called up, apply for relief at once. Unless your circumstances are such that you can meet the amount, you will be likely to obtain relief, unless, of course, your position i is so hopeless as to make it impossible for you ever to repay. WORRIED. —You may sue for the agreed amount of maintenance. You cannot retain the child until you are paid, but if the parents are totally unfitted to have the care of the child you might properly refuse to give her up unless ordered by the Court. You may arrange for the Child Welfare Department to care for the child. The new rate will be 5 per cent. If, however, you cannot meet the full instalments, your mortgagee will probably agree to smaller payments. If he does not agree apply for relief under the Mortgagors' Relief Act. DEEDS.—Usually when a land owner subdivides his land and sells sections, he stipulates that he will not be liable to contribute towards the cost of fencing. There is nothing unusual in requiring you to sign a fencing agreement. CONCERN. —You can enforce your rights under the will by suing the trustees. You must bear the burden of exchange. SURTAX. —The tax remains on many goods. The merchant can charge as much as he likes. Your remedy is to refuse to buy if you think the price excessive. WILIi.—(I) The release signed may still be operative, and, If so, probably leaves the moneys at the sole disposal of yoijr parents. (2) Whether the trustees haye power to advance you moneys depends upon the terms of the original settlement, and of the special settlement of your share. There is no use in pressing, them unless the documents empower them to do as you ask. INTERESTED. —The daughter can be compelled to support her mother if her personal circumstances enable her to do so. SHAREHOLDER.—The acquisition of shares in the company will not affect your status as an employee, or your obligations as a unionist. FRUIT. —fl) You are entitled to a reduction of 20 per cent. FINGER PRINT EXPERT.—Tour proposed business is a legitimate one. WORKER.—I understand the board supple ments your wage by 10/ per week, and in most cases this is the whole cash wage. WALKER.—There is no legal provision requiring the registrar to give the illformation sought. Where he feels that it is in the public interest to divulge the information, he does so. J.B.M.—See answer to "Worried." Apply to the Magistrate's Court. Your case will probably be referred to the Adjustment Commission. RURAL LANDS.—A judgment for rates becomes a charge on the land rated. The land may be sold. It is not usual to prove for rates in bankruptcy as the land is usually sufficient security.
