BOWLING TOURNEY.
AUCKLAND CENTRE. COMPETITIONS IN SINGLES. SECTION WINNERS AT REMUERA. The open singles tournament promoted by the Auckland Bowling Centre was continued this morning, when poet-section play commenced on the Eemuera green. Conditions were perfect; the green was keen, all the better for the warm summer sunshine, with just enough breeze to prevent the heat from becoming oppressive. Contrary to last year's experience, where numerous ties enabled 29 competitors to quality for post-section play, this year most of the sections were won outright, so only 15 qualified in the 12 sections, into which the 78 competitors were divided. However, the lower number will not reduce the number of rounds of postsection play very much, and it will probably take seven rounds to find the winner, played under the two-life sjstem by the automatic draw. Five rounds are being played to-day, so the tournament will easily conclude to-morrow morning. The 15 competitors who qualified for inter-section play include V. Kumnior (Auckland), last year's winner, and E. IS. Benuet (Takapuna), last year's runnerup, while further distinction is to be noted in the presence of Norrie Bell (the present champion of Takapuna), who was Dominion champion two years ago. He is in good form again and got through bis five rounds of section play yesterday without a loss, although his opponents includ::! Maxwell Walker, three times Dominion singles champion. Kummer and Bell, on the other hand, each had one loss yesterday, the former to Eagleton and the latter to Hardie Neil. Among the others whose performance to-day will be watched with interest are the only two representatives of Onehunga, J. Kerr, last year's club champion and a former runner-up in the Dominion cham-pionship,-and P. Livingstone, the present club champion, who shares with R. Eag'eton the unique distinction of -having wo'i the championship of three clubs. There is also K. S. Higginbotham, the presenc Henderson champion and runner-up to A. B. Matthews in the Ponsouby championship. Nearly all the others have previous notable performances to their credit, thus investing their play to-day with interest.
