WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
BUCKLAND. . At the December, meeting Mre. Harper gave a lecture on first aid, and spoke on "Poisons" in a very effective manner. Mrs. Stringer demonstrated the making of a quilt in wool. An example of one made by herself was shown, and was admired by all. The competition, which was the making of a Christmas gift not to cost more than 2/6, was won by Mrs. Schoiield. The roll call was, "Why I Joined the Inetitute?" and the motto, "Study Economy and Live Like a Lord." Afternoon tea was diepeneed by Mrs. Shaw and Miss Home, and Miss Pulman sang.
SILVERDALE. An open afternoon and flower show Wae held at the last meeting, when garden hints were given by members, and an interesting seedling competition was won by Mr. Colhoun. Some beautiful flowere were exhibited and it ie hoped to make the show an annual affair. Mrs. Stoney, sen., and Mrs. Carter acted as judges. Afternoon tea was eerved by the hostesses, Meedames Blanc, Willoughby and Dmnpor. i
