MAGIC LANTERN FUN.
For the following experiment we need a steel horseshoe magnet, iron filings and a magic lantern. A horseshoe magnet is placed in the lantern so that its shadow is cast upon the screen, and very fine iron filings are allowed to fall within the influence of the magnet. These filings are not visible as they fall, but become so the moment
that they adhere to the magnet or one another. They appear to branch out , and increase into beautiful curves like 1 vegetation. If the magnet or the frame of the lantern be tapped gently the branches will move, arranging themselves more closely together in some places, and opening out in others like foliage in a breeze. '
