GIGANTIC OPERATIONS.

BRITISH TREASURY PAYMENTS

LONDON, December 1

On the London Stock Exchange today is a day of gigantic monetary transaction, over £700,000,000 being involved in the day's turnover. The Government is distributing £105,000,000 to holders of the 5 per cent war loan who did not convert, also £50,000,000 interest, besides repaying £140,000,000 of Treasury bonds.

Lombard Street was most careful that the preparations for the operations should not disturb the flow of credit and should prevent, a money "squeeze."

The "Daily Telegraph" city editor says lie expects the expansion of available credit will lead to a heightened demand for first-class investment stocks.
