SOME SPLENDID DESIGNS.

CHRISTMAS CARD COMPETITION JUDGED. v; '> '' " '. . w \ ' ']* ' "i Z.:: OLD FAVOURITE ARRANGED FOR NEXT WEEK. Dear Boys and Girls, — In the office these last few days one might easily imagine that Christmas had arrived just four weeks too soon, for splendid greeting cards have been arriving by every mail. Entries were received in good numbers for the Christmas card designing competition and the standard of work was exceptionally high. Two cards, both decorated with typically New Zealand scenes, earned for Barry Willott, 18, Halston Road, Mount Eden, age 15, the first prize. A vast amount of work was put into each card, the printing within the folders was well done and the wording appropriate. A seaside scene with a pohutiukawa tree in evidence was well drawn and neatly coloured, earning for Esme Quick the prize for the second best design received. Very well arranged Christmas cards were sent in by Elsie Orams and Cathleen Fletcher, one having a spray of kowhai upon the front leaf and the other a neat sketch of tea-tree blossom. Among the four-point winners some exceptional work was also to be seen. Particularly so' 'was the "entry of Zela Carter, whose design for the Christmas card took the form of & wild duck flying with a letter in its beak across, country that was typical of New Zealand. For this competition there were many good card designs submitted, and in awarding the prizes preference was given to those entries that had a local flavour. The competition arranged for next week is an old favourite in the form of a missing letter puzzle. A paragraph is printed from which several letters have been omitted,'and a dot substituted in their place. Boys and girls are set the task of reconstructing the original piece. Remember the competition rules when />! _ posting your entry, and don't forget to enclose your riddle. For further f 1/ particulars see the competition I announcement . which . appears elsewhere on this page.
